At RedFest we have two categories of tickets on offer, namely:

  1. General Admission
    1. With this ticket you get access to the Redhill School campus for the day, and you can join us for all the non-show activities that will be on offer.
  2. Tickets for a Performance
    1. With this ticket you get access to the Redhill School campus, at no charge, giving you access to all the non-show activities on offer; as well as to the show\s you have bought individual tickets for.

Amanda Strydom - State of the Heart

Amanda Strydom is a South African singer and songwriter. Although best known for her singing, Strydom has also been active as a playwright and actress, most notably in the fields of cabaret and television. &CO is proud to bring you Amanda Strydom in her award-winning show STATE OF THE HEART. This timeless tale mimics the old “Afrikaner” traditions, taking you on a journey through the history of South Africa from the twenties to seventies.

This cabaret reveals the cruelty of war and the passion of continued faith that, despite setbacks, love can prevail. Strydom intertwines the story with songs in Afrikaans, English, French, Zulu, German and Dutch and is accompanied by music director and pianist Coenraad Rall.

Standard Bank Young Artist for Theatre 2016, Jade Bowers presents BLACK an adaptation of CA Davids’ Blacks of Cape Town by Penelope Youngleson (winner of the Standard Bank Gold Ovation award for Sillage).Historian, Zara Black, far from home, is woken by music that evokes memories she has been trying to forget. It is this call from her father -seemingly from beyond the grave - that finally pushes Zara to accept that it falls to her to understand the occurrences that forced her away from Cape Town.

Cy Coleman, the swingin’ Rat Pack-era composer, had a lifelong love affair with women. &CO is proud to bring you award-winner Carly Graeme alongside music director Rowan Bakker as they explore the relationships he had with his three most famous collaborators: Carolyn Leigh, Dorothy Fields and Betty Comden (with Adolph Green). His music has become legendary in its own right, along with his string of hit shows,including CITY OF ANGELS, THE WILL ROGERS FOLLIES and SWEET CHARITY. Expect some of the era’s best music, premiering at RedFest 2018.

Chiffonade

CHIFFONNADE is a dance performance specifically made for toddlers and young children. CHIFFONADE has toured extensively in Europe and around the globe receiving glowing reviews. A ginormous squishy ball of many colours sits alone on the stage. It’s actually the patchwork house of a mercurial sprite who gives the sphere lively legs, turns it into a snail-shell home, and finally wriggles out of it into the Big World. The Dance piece is given new life as Dhallu partners with ASSITEJ SA and acclaimed Vuyani Dance Theatre performer Lulu Mhlangeni to provide a unique South African take on the work.

An introduction to creating Theatre (dance, music and drama) using one’s body and voice. Endogenous and modern games, basic theatre techniques, controlled playing using recycled materials and the environment to create scenery, instruments, props and set (empty egg cartoons, plastics bottle shakers, pipe flute etc.) Participants create a short play by the end of the workshop.

GEBOORTE is an Afrikaans play inspired by foetal abduction – a rare, violent crime in which a highly pregnant woman’s baby is cutout against her will in a caesarean section. Alicia van Niekerk is a disturbed, unstable young woman living in an apartment complex in the lower-class section of the fictional town of Sondefontein. GEBOORTE makes use of a lot of symbolism alluding to childhoodtrauma and a history of anti-social behaviour which leads to the catastrophic events that take place on that day.

Splash! Splutter! Then shhhhhh... Only ripples left. Would you dive in next? Three best friends bravely embark on a project to make their town´s drinking water safe again. They soon discover, however, that they have waded into hot water and that the problems affecting the town dam are deeper and murkier than at first glance. Still determined to make a difference and to secure the future of their friends and family, the trio dive in to fix the mess, proving in spectacular fashion that children with the biggest imaginations will save the world.

The story of Sakhile born in the village of Indwendwe, is the first born of the Ngobese family and was very loved by both his parents. His parents were growing older and expected him to be responsible for the family’s businesses and the family’s wealth as their only son. Sakhile was always trained by his mother and his father was always absent. He never got a chance to cherish and spend time with his father. He grew up with anger and frustration as he was always told to live to impress his parents. As his father was growing older, he came back to leave his legacy to Sakhile his only son. Sakhile before accepting all his father’s wealth had a secret to reveal.

The NSA Drama Department presents an Afro-Punk styled MACBETH set in a dystopian, post-apocalyptic South Africa. Reimagined in an African setting in the Eastern Cape and with reworked text, this critically acclaimed production presents an energetic, edgy, accessible narrative for today’s audience. Watch good disappear under a cloak of evil as a celebrated soldier and military strategist loses his moral fibre when prompted by the forces of darkness. See “vaulting ambition” take a noble man from good to bad and from bad to worse.

NIGHT/LIGHT is a multi-disciplinary music for 9-11 year olds which explores the dark side of light and the light side of dark through live music, shadow puppetry, live action and video footage. Created in partnership with the Goethe-Institut South Africa as part of the Goethe-Institut Project Space (GPS), NIGHT/LIGHT is directed by Tamara Guhrs and presented by Blank Canvas Kollective. NIGHT/LIGHT follows one character, Her, as they learn to overcome fear,discomfort and change by finding a glimmer of light in the darkest of spaces.

Nijinsky's War

NIJINSKY’S WAR combines theatre, film and dance to shed light on the life of renowned Russian ballet dancer and choreographer Vaslav Nijinsky.

Nijinsky, who is cited as the greatest male dancer of the early 20th century, was celebrated for his virtuosity and depth of characterisations. Tragically he was diagnosed with schizophrenia and committed to various asylums for the last 30-years of his life. NIJINSKY’S WAR subjectively engages with mental illness while drawing parallels between Nijinsky and Van Heerden’s journey as dancers and choreographers.

PULA: For the roots that connect us

PULA explores the story of five women and how the expectations society has on them affects them negatively. They are in a village called Pusetso where they hope to restore themselves. The ladies visit Pusetso out of a belief that there is a tree that stores rainwater with the powers to heal when consumed. Their environments have pushed them to thinking that something about who they are now needs to change and be fixed. They however face a few obstacles including the fact that there is a drought. They do not realize that on this journey they have begun to look at themselves intrinsically and are beginning to find and love themselves better.

Stepping into Fire

Set on a high wire practice platform, a young woman tightrope walker confronts her fears and tries to regain her balance on the wire two days after the tragic death of her partner/husband. If she is to emulate her heroes and continue to work the high wire, she must take that first step back onto thewire. A heart-breakingly beautiful monologue which now has 4 dramatic songs.

The Eulogy

This Eulogy uncovers the story of four women on a journey to discovering their power as they move away from dwelling in their afflictions. This explores a Eulogy to themselves. They however, take power from this Eulogy by acknowledging that sometimes parts of them need to die so that they can live in their true beings. We explore their controversial tales, such how they deal with mental health, being perpetrators and victims of abuse and choices with sexuality. An unlearning is to take place.
